As we look at the end of Acts 5 and begin Acts 6, we see the true character of spiritual leaders. Instead of seeking power, prestige, and a name for themselves (like Gamaliel), the disciples actually rejoice at being considered worthy to suffer shame for Jesus’ Name. Continually, they handle problems facing the Church as opportunities to lead their people well and, in this case, seeing a lack of leadership, they choose faith-filled men to be Elders. As we evaluate leadership, we clearly see that it is a person filled with the Holy Spirit, full of faith, and strong in character that sets a spiritual leader apart from the leadership of the world.
