In Acts 13, Paul and Barnabas declare that the Jewish people have rejected the Word of God. Yet only two verses later, Luke tells us that the Gentiles who were “appointed” for eternal life gave thanks. At first glance, we might wonder “If God has already chosen those for eternal life, do we even have a choice?”
These are the truths presented in Scripture: God’s sovereignty and man’s responsibility. As we trust in these truths, we recognize that we only see in part, and that God’s ways are higher than ours. Still, the impact of these truths are significant. If God is sovereign, then we can completely rest in His total control. If man is responsible, then we MUST “go fishing” and preach the Gospel to a lost world.
